In 2006, the number of adults in the US diagnosed and not in an institution (Hospital, Nursing Home, etc.) was 24.1 million. That's 11% of the adult US population.

In 2005, the number of US death due to Heart disease was 652,091. That's 222 for every 100,000 people. Heart disease was the number 1 cause of death in the US for year 2005.
