You are fat because you eat too many carbohydrates?

You are fat because you eat too many carbohydrates?I'm just reading too many posts asking the same thing, and I can't keep typing the same stuff over and over. It's all from people asking "how can I get a six pack" and "Why do I have love handles" or "How come I'm overweight." The answer to losing weight is NOT 1) exercise more 2) simply eat fewer calories or 3) cut back on the fat.

1) Commonly known, if you can cut about 500 calories a day, you'll drop about one pound a week. In order to "burn" 500 calories a day with exercise, a 200 Lbs man would have to run for 45 mins every single day, 7 days a week. That's just not sustainable for most people. This of course only works if you're not overeating by 600 calories a day - in which case you'd still be eating 100 calories too much (meaning you'd gain 1 Lbs every 5 weeks). You must change your diet, but not just by cutting calories...

2) Eating fewer calories almost never works, because people tend to eat fewer BAD calories, rather than swapping their crappy food for good food. Eating sugar and carbohydrates (yes, even those "healthy" whole grains) causes your body to produce more insulin to break down the sugar. To much sugar in the blood is toxic. So insulin will either pass the carbs as energy to your cells that need it, or it will store it as fat. Over time your body becomes accustomed to getting it's energy from carbs, and will have a hard time getting it from stored fat because of the higher levels of insulin in your body (aka, your body doesn't use any fat, it only stores it). This is what causes cravings. Your body needs to do something with that insulin, and one of insulin's jobs is to manage sugar so it signals your body for MORE sugar! Also, you can eat a 1,200 calorie dessert because carbohydrates don't stimulate the release of certain hormones that alert your brain that you're full (Leptin is one). Only Fat and protein will. That's why there's always room for dessert.

3) Fat is absolutely necessary to good health. And I mean saturated fat. It DOES NOT cause problems with cholesterol unless you're eating high carbohydrates. Your LDL will probably go up, but it will only be the "pattern A" LDL, which is the "good" stuff (light buoyant) as opposed to the "small dense" particles which cause inflammation, plaque buildup, heart disease. Check the Amer Heart Assoc website, they even agree that a diet greater than 60% carbs will lead to high Triglycerides (fat in your blood) which is a sign of future heart disease. It's polyunsaturated vegetable fats that cause problems due to their uneven Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio. Amer diet foods have way to high an amount of O6 (that's why some people take Omega 3 supplements daily). This causes all kinds of problems for your heart. It's also why cultures that eat a lot of fish have relatively low instances of heart disease.

In short, cut your carbohydrates if you want to lose fat, and eat more fat and protein from clean animal sources (grass fed beef, game animals, fish, coconut) and only get them from vegetables and some fruit. Feel free to comment.
EDIT: What does "the very fat like you" mean? I assure you, I'm not the least bit fat.

I highly agree to (2.) & (3.) but have to disagree on (1.)

Studies have shown people (on average) can gain weight on 1000 calorie high carb, low fat diet.
Studies have shown people (on average) can lose weight on 2600 calorie high fat, low carb diet.
I have heard many people eating 4000-10000 calories & losing weight, but that was as high as I found in a scientific study. They have a hard time studying high calorie, low carb diets because the body is self limiting with protein & fats (although carbs can be eaten endlessly). In a personal experiment, one lean fellow added 2000 fat calores to his normal high fat 2500 calorie diet for one week for a total of 4500 calories a day & lost a pound.

I am adamantly opposed to low calorie dieting because most people lose a good portion of lean tissue (including vital organs like the heart) along with fat stores. There is no nutrition in fat stores, only energy. Most people get impatient and lower their calories and increase their exercise to a point where they lose so much lean tissue that when they return to what was maintenance level eating they are now accumulating more fat stores because their caloric needs have dropped due to the loss of this tissue as well as their metabolism slowing down to work more efficiently on fewer calories & it becomes a vicious cycle of dieting and more loss (including vital organs like the heart). This stress to the vital organs cannot be healthy.

SEVEN REASONS TO EAT MORE SATURATED FAT -

1) Improved cardiovascular risk factors

Saturated fat in the diet reduces the levels of lipoprotein (a) abbreviated Lp(a)—that correlates strongly with risk for heart disease. The only dietary means of lowering Lp(a) is eating saturated fat. Eating fats raises the level of HDL, the so-called good cholesterol.

2) Stronger bones

Saturated fat is required for calcium to be incorporated into bone - According to expert in human health, Mary Enig, Ph.D., as much as 50 percent of the fats in the diet should be saturated fats.

3) Improved liver health
Studies show that saturated fat encourages the liver cells to dump fat content. Saturated fat has been shown to protect the liver from the toxic insults of alcohol & medications and even to reverse the damage.

4) Healthy lungs

For proper function, the airspaces of the lungs have to be coated with a thin layer of lung surfactant. The fat content of lung surfactant is 100 percent saturated fatty acids. Replacement of these critical fats by other types of fat makes faulty surfactant & potentially causes breathing difficulties, collapse of the airspaces & respiratory distress.

5) Healthy brain

Your brain is mainly made of fat & cholesterol. Though highly unsaturated essential fatty acids found in cold-water fish (EPA & DHA) are important for brain & nerve function, most of the fatty acids in the brain are actually saturated. The brain needs saturated fats to function optimally.

6) Proper nerve signaling

Certain saturated fats, found in butter, lard, coconut oil, & palm oil, function directly as signaling messengers that influence the metabolism. Without the correct signals to tell the organs & glands what to do, the job gets done improperly.

7) Strong immune system

Saturated fats found in butter & coconut oil (myristic acid & lauric acid) play key roles in immune health. Loss of sufficient saturated fatty acids in the white blood cells hampers their ability to recognize & destroy foreign invaders, such as viruses, bacteria, & fungi. Myristic & lauric acid have potent germ-killing ability. We need dietary replenishment of them to keep the immune system vigilant against the development of cancerous cells & infectious invaders.
